Christmas Update

Merry belated Christmas everyone!!

I managed to make most of my family handmade gifts and the best part was all the yarn was from my stash!! :) You can read all about it here on my blog.

Christmas gifts

I have definately decided that I need to start MUCH earlier next year on my holiday gifts so that I am not staying up till 3AM on Christmas Eve trying to finish a project!

Merry Christmas Eve

Merry Christmas Eve my Christmas KALers!
Thank you all for joining me in this insane rush to knit for our friends and families for the holidays.

Sadly, I did not finish my list.. but actually have a few days left for the 4 remaining items... I ended up making a few last minute changes to my list... but that's ok.. that's the beauty of knitting :-)

There has been a suggestion to keep our group open for next year's knitting to get underway early... I"m happy to do that... though I probably won't post very frequently :-) I also will share a KAL that I was directed to that you all might also be interested in...it's called the Gift Along and here's the link:

http://knitallyear.blogspot.com/

Finished....Finally! WHEW!

Update on me....I've finished everything that I had on my list previously and I'm now going to try to get a few more finished that I didn't know if I would ever have time for.

I'm also wondering if anyone else here is planning on starting their Christmas knitting earlier for 2008. I already know of some items that I can go ahead and start knitting on after the new year arrives. If I do that then maybe I won't feel so crunched when it comes down to it next year.

I would love it if this groups stays up and running. That way it will keep me going.

Completed Stocking!

Here it is, all finished in time for the big day....whew! I used acrylic yarn for this and size 6 straight needles to the foot and then changed to dpns. My pattern is an old one from the 70's which I tweaked quite a bit by adding the snowman in the middle section and other changes I made as I went along....so, my fellow fiber artists, what do you think?

Cheers, Laura

P.S. Just in case I don't post again before Christmas, I want to wish all of you a lovely holiday season filled with much joy and good health!

Almost done!

Woohoo! I still have a Li'l Devil Hat to make for Brett and something for my brother's girlfriend--possibly beaded fingerless gloves?--but other than that, there's only a few little knitted sweater ornaments to go.

I really hope I'm not forgetting someone.

Further updates

I'm in New York for auditions now (I'm an opera singer), and I only brought small, time-consuming projects with me (a Wisp and a pair of socks, both for myself), so when I'm home on Sunday I really need to get back on the stick...

Scarves: Jeff, Mom, Margaret, Ellie, Christine, Joanna
Progress: Joanna's scarf needs fringe; otherwise I'm done.

"Manly Moebius Cowl": Matt, Mike, BJ, Dad (Birthday)
Progress: All finished but the one for my father; I'm having trouble adapting the pattern for gauge.

Ribbed fingerless mittens: Sandra, Mike W., Fritz, Christina, Lauren, Susie
Progress: The mittens for Sandra, Mike and Susie are done; one of Fritz's is done. I'll see Lauren today, and I'm going to ask her what she actually wants. :)

Women's mittens: Arlette, Laura, Helen, Mom
Progress: need to make Mom's gloves to match scarf; otherwise completed.

Child Hats (various): Brett, Suli birthday (Little Devil Hats); Ellie birthday (Child Hallowig); Suli (House Elf hat)
Progress: Ellie's and both of Suli's are done, but I'm not crazy about how the House Elf hat came out so I may frog it and make something else.

Sleeveless hoodie: Naomi
Progress: I have the yarn, and will start this soon.

And I was planning to get my grandmother some nice yarn, but she's not able to crochet right now because of a cataract and some trouble with her hand. So now I have to make her something, and I have no idea what!

Other completed projects--
Child Mittens: Jack
Lace rib shrug: Cathy (needs pin)
Men's socks: Dad, Grandpa
Hats: Rebecca, Helen (need pin for Helen's hat)

Blue Morning Mitts

These are the second mitts I have made with this pattern. It is very easy and addictive! I want to make more!...

Maine Morning Mitts by Clara Parkes (Knitters Review)
Yarn is Cascade 220 Heather - in blue.

Size 7 needles.

Loopa...

Realising that my Christmas knitting will probably take me until next year I have tried to find faster things too.
Kids will now be getting Loopa scarves instead of knitted ones.
My 15 year old daughter has just given this one her approval and said she would wear it so I might do one for my neice too. ( I was origionally just going to do them for the younger kids ). I must admit I do wear the one that I made for me in cream and gold and I love it.

Finally started...

Mistake rib scarf, looks pink in the photo but is actually bright red. I think this will be for my nephew. Will possibly make more of this as it is quite an easy knit and grows fast.

Seaweed scarf from December's simply knitting magazine. I think this will be for my neice. I am loving this and I think the pink makes it look like coral. I might make another of these for my sister in law if I get time but I am definately planning 1 for me ( maybe after Christmas ) with small beads on.

Socks for my Daughter, Nephew and neice for Christmas. Nephews socks have turned into birthday socks though as it's on Wednesday and we forgot to get him a gift.

There are quite a few items I want to make for gifts but I don't think I will get them all done in time.

Finished Christmas Gift

Well, I have finally completed one (yes 1) Christmas gift so far! Some socks for my Mom in Knit Picks Felici yarn- Firefighter colorway! The kiddos broke my digital camera (the SECOND one in a year) so I cannot post pics ;o(

OTN: a black & purple scarf for my eldest daughter in black & purple stripes, all in garter stitch with the color changing every 20 rows. A "wand" holder from Harry Potter Knits- the Dragon Scale one I'm doing in green with size 3 needles for my youngest son (he is studying to become a Music Teacher and needed a holder for his directing "wand"). Another pair of socks using Lorna's Laces sport weight yarn in Pioneer colorway for Hubby.

Still planned: a pair of socks for a dear friend, some wash cloth sets for sisters, a tie for my Father, something for my new 3 year-old niece (my brother just got married two weeks ago), and now my oldest son as requested a AFGHAN in black & shades of blue! I am thinking of crocheting this since I crochet so much faster than knit. Or, maybe I will finally set up my knitting machine that has been in the box since bought 3 years ago and give it a try for the afghan.

Realistic Updated List

I guess it's time to wake up and smell the 'realism' of the facts here and they are these: I am not going to complete several things on my original list below:

1. Mother: Socks
2. DIL: Hat
3. Daughter: Wrist Warmers
4. DIL: Shawl
5. Son: Hat
6. GD: Sweater & Hat
7. ?? : Ripple Lap Blanket
So, here's what are possibilites: I may get a pair of socks done for my mother, but then again? The hat for my DIL is a good possibility, the wrist warmers are definitely off the list. The shawl is in progress but not completed and I think the hat for my son must go as well, sad to say. I am going to replace the sweater and hat for my granddaughter with a (hopeful) Christmas stocking made just for her.

Last but not least, is the fact that I'm pleased as punch to tell you that I have completed the ripple blanket as you can see from the picture so at least I have something to report. Many of you are doing just great with your lists and I applaud your collective completions.

Indecisive, Almost Always

That's me. So it's no surprise that my Christmas list keeps changing. It helps none at all that my sweet mother inlaw's birthday is all of 12 days away, and my hubby and sister both have pre-Christmas birthdays.

I'm getting ready to cast on for my hubby's post-anniversary socks, and then, my MIL's birthday pedicure socks. THEN, the Christmas knitting can begin. There will be a lace stole for my stepmom, a lace scarf for my sister, socks for my mother, another pair of regular socks for my MIL, and that should be about it, aside from some small gifts for my online friends. I'm also hoping for a few other Wick house socks, but those are the ones that simply must happen!

Hello!!

Just wanted to say hello.... My name is Courtney and I am from Roseville California :-) I will post my Chistmas knitting list soon :-)

Finally ready to start Christmas knitting

I finished my Halloween knits.. finished my swaps, and now... NOW I can get busy with my Christmas gifts/knitting!

Yahoo!

I'm way behind Jennifer, but with the way I've been knitting things up lately.. I should be cruising through my list quickly (hehehe let's hope!)

Welcome to newbies Jil and Courtney!
I keep changing my mind about what I'm making people...

Men's socks: Dad, Grandpa
Progress: Done!

"Manly Moebius Cowl": Matt, Mike, BJ
Progress: Done!

Ribbed fingerless mittens: Sandra, Mike W., Fritz, Christina, Lauren, Susie
Progress: Sandra's and Mike's are done. I keep changing my mind about what to make for the other four, but I really like making these! Maybe I'll add a cable or something next time.

Scarves: Jeff, Mom
Progress: Done!

Women's gloves: Arlette, Laura, Helen, Mom
Progress: need to make Mom's gloves to match scarf; otherwise completed.

Hats: Rebecca, Helen
Progress: Done! (need pin for Helen's hat)

Child Hats (various): Brett, Naomi, Suli birthday (Little Devil Hats); Ellie birthday (Child Hallowig); Suli (House Elf hat)
Progress: Ellie's and both of Suli's are done, but I'm not crazy about how the House Elf hat came out so I may frog it and make something else.

Child Mittens: Jack, Ellie, Margaret
Progress: Jack's are done.

Lace rib shrug: Cathy
Progress: Done! (needs pin)

There are pictures of a bunch of this stuff over on Ravelry (my login is divamaglia). In addition to the above, I do have two women's scarves for people I may run into over the holidays. And I think I'm making little sweater ornaments (maybe with duplicate stitch initials?) for a whole bunch of people. Or possibly amigurumis.

Coming around the home stretch...

Progress is being made!

Things are going well on the Christmas Knitting here.

  • I finished one pair of Fiber Trends Felt Clogs (for my dad). I also added traction - see how! I'd definitely recommend this pattern. If you have any questions about it feel free to drop me a line at my blog.
  • I've decided not to even buy the wool for the other 4 pairs of Felt Clogs until I get to England. (I'm moving November 10th and the other pairs are for my BF's grandma, mom, and aunts.)
  • I've been knitting away on my sister's 10 foot scarf. See the progress here.
  • I've almost finished all the dishcloths. Last weekend my best friend and I went to Granville Island to buy handmade soaps for them all. I'll post about that and add the link soon.
  • I haven't even cast on my mom's stole... but I already apologized that it won't be done.

Christmas knitting is about to start

Ladies,

I'm excited to report that my christmas knitting is nearly here! ;-) I laugh a little because I started this whole KAL to get my rear going early.. and I supposed that late October is earlier than usual for me.. ;-)

My SIL was visiting recently and she made some 'bag' suggestions for some of my family members, so my list is going to change a tad... speaking of my list... I think I'll repost it soon...

I have one more halloween hat (A bat) to knit and some Dora Hair to attempt... the pattern seemed confusing to me... might of been the time of day to be honest... and I expect to have them both completed by the end of this week... and then onto the Christmas knits... wahoo!

How's everyone else doing...?
Monica... I want to know more about those felted clogs... are they difficult?

I'll see if I can go scrounge up my list for a re-post...

Sock Monkey Baby Socks

For My Grandson

Don't these remind you of the stuffed monkey toys made out of socks?

I am working on a baby blanket for him also - about half done.

More info and pictures of the socks on My Blog

half done

My single, solitary gift is half done, and after a desperate search across the UK I've found some more loro barranquero malabrigo to finish it, huzzay!

Its an ultra simple ribbed and reversible scarf, which sits 7inches wide (without being stretched), and will be as long as the wool lasts, two more skeins are in the post. I have rationalised the simple-mindedness of this scarf to myself by saying that 'simple design is classic' and 'the beauty of it is in the colours', which might both be true but really its just great to be a lazy knitter sometimes. On the otherhand my motto is you can't have too simple a design when it comes to men's clothing. Fingers crossed he likes the colours then, I guess.
Also, hello to all the new knitters who have joined up, and wow to all those who have posted FOs.

Getting Started

Hi Everyone! I'm excited to be a part of this. I thought I'd share my list, so I can keep track of where I'm at.

This first section is my family:
  • Mom - Gothic Leaf Stole
  • Dad — Fiber Trends Felt Clogs [OTN]
  • Sister — Washcloth & Handmade Soap (Letter B)
This is my BF (Craig) and his family. I think that Felt Clogs would go over really well with the women in the family... but I really don't know about the men:
  • Craig -- the never-ending scarf... and something else.
  • Grandad M --
  • Grandma P — Felted Clogs
  • His Mom — Felted Clogs
  • His Aunt — Felted Clogs
  • His Aunt — Felted Clogs
  • Grandma R — Felted Clogs
  • Grandad J --
  • Grandmummy — Egyptian themed
For most of my friends I'm making dishcloths and buying some handmade soaps.
  • Evan -- not really a "hand made" kinda guy.
  • Rachel — Washcloth (Labyrinth) & Handmade Soap
  • Anna — Washcloth (Tea Time / Letter A / Music Note) & Handmade Soap
  • Laura — Washcloth (colour: blue/black) & Handmade Soap
  • Ginger — Washcloth (Ribbed Earthtones) & Handmade Soap
  • Kas — Washcloth (Letter K) & Handmade Soap
  • Eka — Washcloth (Snowflake) & Handmade Soap
So to sum it up - I've got a lot of washcloths and clogs to make!

Getting excited

Hey gals,

I'm excited.. I am nearly done with my swap knitting... and other than a baby gift... I will finally be able to concentrate on christmas knitting... NO MORE SWAPS until my christmas knitting is done... I've volunteered to help co-host a swap... but haven't been told 'yes' or 'no' yet... but that will be my only swap (with the exception of a dishcloth swap) from now until christmas... :-)

I even bought yarn yesterday for my various felted bags I need to make! :-)

Having Myself A Selfish Little Christmas...

I am a bit ashamed of myself, but only a bit. I seem to have developed a serious case of selfishness. The holidays are approaching, and I am *STILL* working on my ever-revised list, but the problem is, ME. It's all about me. (So much for Christmas spirit, eh?) I am besotted with lace, so a couple of dear hearts are getting lace wraps instead of socks. You see, knitting is my hobby, my passion and my therapy, so I only knit what I love. That means not so many dishcloths, more socks, and evidently, lace. Hubby's special blankie is on hold, even though it would have been a powerful 10th anniversary OR 40th birthday gift (both BEFORE Christmas). There's still time for me to change my mind and begin working on it this weekend while he's away, but we'll see.

In happy news, I am holding strong on my little treat knitted item, but that's a big secret. ;)

Christmas Knitting Whoas

yes.. WHOAs.. not woes... :-)

I haven't gotten much done because I signed up for too many swaps... bad bad bad me ;-) I really do need to buckle down and get some christmas knitting done.. but can't until I'm done with the swaps I'm in.. I think I can still get through much of my list.. but it will just be a bit longer before I can really start :-)

Hope you all are having a great time getting your knitting done...

oh, and welcome to Newbie Bianca!

21. son - orange hat for hunting.
There maybe the odd thing after this.

An eye-opening list

I was all set to make these really cute ruffly scarves for all the women I know...then I realized that they all got scarves last year.

Men's socks: Dad, Grandpa, Matt, Mike
Progress: turned heel on first sock of eight!

Women's socks: Helen, Sandra, Mom

Progress: one pair + one footlet for Mom completed

Scarves: Jeff, Brandan, Christina
Progress: ruffly scarf for Christina completed

Women's gloves: Arlette, Laura
Progress: complete!

Hats: Rebecca, Fritz, Lauren, Susie, Mike W.
Progress: Rebecca's hat completed

Lace rib shrug: Cathy

I also have three boys (4, 2, 1) and at least three girls (6, 5, infant) to knit for. I may need to make five or six more quick gifts, for people I may or may not see. But there are so many cute Christmas ornament patterns out there, I'm sure I can pick a few and make them en masse over a weekend. Plus I have two women's scarves already finished, without a recipient.

Yanno, seeing it all written out, it really seems doable now.

Oh so sad and pathetic

Hey everyone... I have sent my mom home and am just today finally getting around to getting on the net and reviewing blogs and swap pal info etc. I will read through the posts to figure out who's the winner of the cool Christmas Knits book and post tonight or tomorrow!

Update and Progress

I have been working steadily, but slowly on Christmas knitting. I've cut some things from my list and replaced them with others. Not because I don't think I'll have time, but I actually want to work on something for me this year, like a sweater.

So, here is an update.

- Split Neckline Cap Sleeve Sweater, for Emy (30% finished)
- Corey's socks (30% finished)
- Karen's socks (50% finished)
- Hat for John's Dad (DONE!)
- Sophie bag for my Mom (80% done)

- Hat for my Dad
- Socks for John's Mom

Another newbie

Hi folks! I'm Jennifer, and this is my first post here. I don't have a list yet, but I have a few projects finished already that I ought to assign recipients to. For example: these socks. (My DH is the grudging model.)

And there may be more of these...I love making socks but my budget doesn't really allow for lots of sock yarn purchases, so I made these with Wool-Ease and size 5 dpns (most of my family lives in New York, so worsted-weight socks aren't a problem). I also just finished a great, super-fast ruffly scarf yesterday (no pic yet) that I'll be making more of as well. Men are harder...though I suppose I can make bigger socks for them. :) And I have a great idea for a knitted ornament that I'll be playing around with this week.

I look forward to seeing all of your projects! Hopefully I'll have a list by the next time I post.
Hello everyone.
I have just joined you and I am looking forward to seeing what everyone is making for Christmas, so I can steal your ideas, hahaha.
I haven't a list as such yet of pressies but can see I will have to get one sorted.
Good luck everyone on completing in time.
Tracey.

Hello

I've just joined this KAL - thanks michelle -and so far my knitting list is very small, that is to say one solitary item, but I love christmas kals because the variety of projects is so great, and of course very inspiring. I'm sure my list will get steadily longer and I like to keep all my knitted gifts secret so its a great way to diarise them all, and its a relief and a reassurance to be among those who speak fluent knit.

My project as the moment is a wide knit 2, purl 2 ribbed scarf. Its a plain design because I'm doing it in malabrigo 'loro barranque' which knitted up looks like paella, all red, saffron yellow, green and brown, very Spanish. I only have one skein with no hope of another from my local wool shop (which happens to be 'Get Knitted' in Bristol - they have a website) so I'm thinking short scarf - add a couple of strategic buttons so it drapes in a pleasing way and keeps the neck warm without having been wrapped round and round. If anyone has tried this I'd love to hear how it turned out - practical or foolish? Or, any other ideas? I'm 10 inches in so there's a way to go.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi : )

Organized Christmas.com

For all those that want to get organized for Christmas. Here is a great link!

http://organizedchristmas.com/

Just remember its only 126 days till Christmas!

Just want to say hello!

Hi, I signed up to this KAL the other day, and since then I´ve been figuring about my Christmas gifts, but I guess my list will never be really finished. It`s very very long and I know that I don`t have a chance to finish all this objects. But I`ll erase objects if I have to, and I haven`t found pattern for everything but I`ll update my list as soon as possible.
Here it is:

Mittens or wristwarmers: 10
Socks: 7
Sweaters: 7
Hats: 7
Scarfs: 13
Dishclothes: 6
Felted purse: 1
Shawl: 1
Slippers: 2
Purse: 5
Whisp: 4
Clapotis: 2

But I`ll probably change the list a little.
Good luck with the knitting everyone.

Michelle, if you read this will you please add me in the sidebar as Angel.
Thanks.

Checking it Twice

Am I the only one completely revising my original list? Gah! Mark now wants socks. My sister will also get a Paws to Remember scarf/stole now, and there will be many Wick socks for a host of women.

That is, if I ever finish this baby blanket. I'm almost done with repeat #2, and then I'm going to measure... I think I might be about 30% done. Oh? And let's not forget Mark's surprise blankie, which he thinks I've simply forgotten. I'll just work on it when he's not around...

Seeking some Recommendations!

So I decided for my co-workers, I am going to do cloths and soap for the men, as well. I think that so long as I don't give them girly patterns, and go with a more 'manly' scented soap, it'll be just fine.

And there's where I need some recommendations! Anyone know of a soap shop online that does some less flowery or citrusy scents, and something more 'man' like? Or does those scrubby soaps?? My sister said her husband likes using those, so I thought they'd be great!

Not much progress for me on my list yet, but I'm THIS close to finishing up the socks I need to and then I will begin in earnest!

Thanks for any thoughts!

Update To My List

Well here it is the middle of August and I'm looking back at my list that I had previously posted. At first, before I looked, I thought that I had not done a lot off of my list. But I have! At least for me it seems like a lot. We are getting ready to move at the end of this month so I haven't been spending too much time knitting. BUMMER! I want to knit! So...here is what I now have done compared to the list:

6 scarves for teachers......2 DONE
2 hat/scarf sets........1 SET DONE AND 1/2 A SET DONE
2 purses......1 PURSE DONE
6 hats for friends of my son....SORRY TO SAY THAT I HAVEN'T STARTED THEM.

I know that I will add to this list but I won't do it until after we move and I get settled in. If I happen to finish something else before we move I'll add it to the list here. Also, I'll post pictures of them all once I get moved and unpack them.

Hope that everyone is having a great summer and knitting away!

I am also going to knit a sweater for each of my nieces and hopefully finish my kids as well.

Well off to get some stuff done.

Mrs. Claus here...

Hello everyone! I hope your christmas knitting is coming along nicely! :-) I'm about 1/4 done with my mom's reader's wrap and am thinking that I might not be making more of these for my other family members... It's taking a long time (though right now my knitting time is quite limited...) I may have to re-think my list... At least I'm figuring this out now.. :-)

we've had a few newbies in the last couple weeks... welcome welcome welcome!

I will be leaving this weekend for our camp. I'll bring some knitting with me, but I know that I almost never have time to knit when I'm there... I think I'll bring scarves from my christmas knits list! :-) Brainless knitting that can be done fairly quickly and can stand the interruptions...

I will not have internet while at camp, so I'll be unable to add any newbies from this Saturday morning until the 19th. Please don't think I've forgotten you... I'm just away from my computer!

In the meantime.. happy knitting!

So much knitting........so little time

As a new member I wanted to say "hello". Now that all my summer exchanges are finished I am starting the "knitting up a storm" Christmas knits.
1. Socks
2. Socks
3. Socks
................I have no idea how many pairs, but at least six
4. Toddler sweater
5. Beaded lace scarf
6. Lace shawl
7. Lucinda Guy blanket
8. Lizard Ridge Blanket

That should do it for now, I know there is more but I still have patterns to go through and stash to sort out.

Sorry about that

That huge rough looking guy is my son Jim. This picture wasn't supposed to end up here, LOL. I was having issues trying to create a slide show of his going away party yesterday. Jim is leaving tonight for Chicago for college. To somewhat relate it to Christmas, I won't see him on Christmas this year, first time since he was born 25 years ago.

I have not started my Christmas list yet, but am hoping to get me list created my next week and then get to speed knitting. So much to do, so little time.

Just Getting Started

I always plan to get involved in a Christmas KAL but don't think about it until the end of October, and then it's really too late. Yeah! Maybe this will inspire me to follow through with some major Christmas knitting. I love Christmas and giving gifts, but my knitted gifts can be a bit limited by the areas in which my planned recipients live. A lot of my relatives live in temperate climates, so for many of them even wool socks aren't an option. But I love wool, so my lucky Indiana-residing sister and her family are the lucky focus of much of my knitting for this KAL. I don't have my list complete at all, but here's a start:

#1 "Trinity" sweater from A Treasury of Rowan Knits for my six-year-old niece.

I really like this pattern, and the directions have been fairly easy to follow, BUT I'm a little worried about one thing. The directions say to knit the armholes for 9 inches for every size! I just don't get it. How can the armholes be the same as for the women's size? The body itself is only 8 inches in length. Yikes!
#2 Stuffed bunny for same niece with replica of "Trinity" sweater
#3 Pirate hat from Moth Heaven's pattern that she designed for four-year-old nephew.
My sister has two other children, so I'll have to think some more about what I want to knit them, and then I think I'll focus on my own family although it's hard to surprise any of them when I'm knitting away out in the living room.

Thanks for sponsoring this, Michelle. It's great!

One down...

I'm pretty sure that I forgot to put these on my Christmas list when I posted it, but they were on there. I finished these up this morning, and am kind of glad that they are out of the way.Pattern: Twinkletoes - Knitty Winter 2006
Yarn: Rowan Calmer in Chiffon
Needles: Plymouth US 6
Modifications: Next time I would make the ties a little bit longer so that they dangle a bit

Happy Half Christmas Eve!

Tomorrow is the annual 'Half' Christmas...

How much have you gotten done on your list??? ;-)

I haven't been on here in a bit, though have been knitting away on my Mom's (decided against starting SILs for now) Reader's wrap.. it's slow going as we've still got so much unpacking to do and I am only half way through Harry... so knitting's been a bit on the back burner.

I wanted to remind everyone, newbies especially of our contest...

here's the original post

Hope you're christmas knitting is coming along nicely! :-)

4. A lace shawl

5. Colinette AbFab Afghan

Intro and Hello :o)

Hello Everyone,

Last year there were many things that I wanted to make for people and ... well ... I am sure you all know how well that works out!! Especially since I only learned to knit last September, LOL!! So this year I hope to start sooner - and some projects I already have - and get things done before December.

Here's my current list:

  • Fingerless Gloves for BF's Mom (she taught me how to knit) *
  • Scarf for BF *
  • Scarf for Mom
  • Golf Club Covers for Dad
  • Bookmark for Diane
  • Crochet Squares Blanket for Brianna
  • Ornaments for as many people as I can make :o)

* Started Already

That's all I can think of at the moment ... I am sure this list will grow throughout the rest of the year!

My Holiday list

Hello everyone! I'm new to the group, but very happy to have found you all :) I have started to make my holiday gift-making list. My list is overwhelming me which is why I like the idea of this KAL. I'm hoping to set monthly goals between now and December to get it all done. Here is what I am currently thinking about for everyone:

Mom & Dad: an afghan **started
Sister 1: an afghan or the Lace Leaf Wrap
DH of S1: Reversible Cable Scarf and possibly fingerless gloves to match
Sister 2: Waves Scarf
DH of S2: scarf (not sure of pattern yet)
niece 1: Fairy Square afghan
niece 2: Cropped Hoodie
Aunt & Uncle: Ripple Afghan
cousin: Ripple Afghan (reds)
cousin: Liesel Scarf
cousin's DH: scarf (not sure of pattern yet)
cousin: Ripple afghan (blues)
friends (10): scarves or bags ** two scarves made already

And of course, I have ceramic snowman that can be painted in a few nights as backup gifts *laugh*

I'm ready to start...

Today I'm starting the 'Reader's Wrap' for my SIL. I bought the yarn last week at AC Moore here in Wilkes-Barre because they were having a big sale. I'm excited to get started because I have 3 on my list of this pattern to make. I'm hopeful that it will knit up quickly!

Wish me luck... this knitting project will be my 'break' from unpacking... I told myself... 15 mins for every 2 hours of unpacking work! Now.. where's my timer....

Running Out of Ideas

I need some ideas. I was going to make my Dad a pair of socks for Christmas. Well, my Mom informed me the other day that he can't wear wool on his feet. I'll spare you the details, but I'll say it's not pretty. Anyhoo, I'm trying to think of what else to make him. I hate working with cotton when it comes to socks, and I don't really think Dad would dig Fixation. I don't like the feel of it on my feet, and he's pickier than I am about things like that. So, I thought, okay - a hat, because I made him a scarf last year. He doesn't wear gloves or mittens.

But does anyone have any other ideas that I am over looking? My father has officially become my hardest person to knit for.

We're in PA

Hello ladies,

We're in PA! Wahoo!

We close today on our house at 2... and hopefully will have internet at our place by tomorrow afternoon! Then I'll finally be able to catch up on my email, and my blog reading.. (wow I didn't realize how addicted I was until I didn't have it for nearly 2 weeks)... :-S

I need to get busy on my christmas knitting... just haven't had as much time as I'd like.. hmmm moving has really put a cramp in my knitting style!

Talk to you all soon!

Wednesday, July 11, 2007

Advice please!

So I've been debating what, exactly, to make for my co-workers. Do you think even men could enjoy/appreciate a dishcloth/towel/potholder set of some kind? Some of them are married, and a few single.. if not, any other ideas? I was thinking I'd do more of a bath-themed one for the women.. think that'd be good or would it be the same for each?

The way I figure it, I'd get little gift bags or put something together with clear-wrap tied with bows with cloths and soap and bath things, or with the kitchen things plus some sort of goodie or recipe or something.

Thoughts??

It's Never Too Soon!

I've just joined in on your KAL and I'm so glad I found it. We all know how quickly Christmas rolls around and I always wait too long to start setting up my knitting list.....until now. Now, I'm not saying I'm necessarily going to finish all of these items but I'm going to give it the old college try. Here's my list, but it's only in the planning stages now, so it may change in several ways. For instance, I may decide as I'm knitting something to give it to my mother instead of my daughter-in-law, etc. or I might decide not to knit the item at all, in which case, I'll keep this up to date. So, here goes:

1. Mother: Socks
2. DIL: Hat
3. Daughter: Wrist Warmers
4. DIL: Shawl
5. Son: Hat
6. GD: Sweater & Hat
7. ?? : Ripple Lap Blanket

I would dearly love to complete my Fair Isle cardigan in time for this winter also, since it's been languishing in a basket 3/4 finished for quite some time now. I've been afraid to attempt steeking and the necessary finishing techniques, but I know I must take the plunge, so to speak. Here is a pic:

I've begun the multi-colored ripple lap blanket and I'm using Mission Falls 1824 cotton which is turning out quite nicely. I thought the cotton might be too heavy but this is working up soft and lofty to say nothing of colorful. I'm using up stash which is always a good thing and I'm crocheting it, of course. Funny thing is that I thought I had tons of this yarn and it's going way too rapidly and I'm only about 1/3 of the way finished, so I guess this means I may have to (GULP!) buy more yarn?

Cheers, Laura

My Christmas knitting 07 includes some unfinished Christmas 06!
1. Red Mistake Rib Scarf
2. Irish Hiking Scarf
3. Homespun Prairie Shawl
4. Assorted Dishcloths for Stocking Stuffers
This list is just a few projects to get me started and in the mood for Christmas Knitting!

Greetings!

Hello everyone. I've been a total crazy woman these last few weeks and I wanted to get over here quickly for a post to say hello, and to welcome all our newbies! So many people have signed up since I went away last weekend!

I'm home in NC for just a few days before we'll officially be PA residents. We close on the 12th on our home there in Mountain Top.. and then I'll finally be ALMOST normal again...

My apologies to anyone who had to wait to get blogging permissions in our group and to be added to our Elves list... this moving thing has kept me away from my own blogging wishes! I did get a lot of knitting done in NY with my in-laws this past week, it was relaxing and fun, and the kids and dogs are having a ball!

For those who know about Chewy, she's well, and on the meds that will hopefully slow the progression of her cancer. We did find out that it has a high likelihood of being metastatic and is indeed a bad form of cancer (as if there's any good forms)... her prognosis is 1 week to 195 days ... not a lot of time, so my kiddos are loving her as much as they can (they didn't take the news too well)... and we're doing activities to remember her by... (we created a beautiful stepping stone for our new yard with her paw print in the middle)... for a 10 year old dog, she's got it pretty good with the love and attention from her kids, and from the in-laws right now while we're in NC finishing up the move... We're all very blessed to have had her in our family for so long... :-) I'm praying hard that she makes it through the week so that my in-laws don't have to worry about dealingwith our children if she should pass while we're away!

For any of you newbies.. scroll through the old posts and look for my contest information! :-)

I'll be back soon!

6 scarves for teachers and who knows who. I always need that extra gift. :)
2 hat/scarf sets for nieces (one is done!)
2 purses
6 hats for friends of my sons

Not much but it will grow as I remember who I have forgotten. It's great to see this list growing so much!

I have just joined this KAL and honestly I am not sure yet about all the patterns I am going to use for my Christmas Knits. All I can say for now, is that I will be knitting only for family members and friends who I know appreciate hand-made presents...

Here is my list for now, but it might change:

Oh, and a Scarf for... moi! I have been wanting to make that one for a long time, and Christmas will be the opportunity I was waiting for!

And now, this is a photo of my kids and I at Santa's Village last month.

HO! HO! HO!

Merry Christmas to ME!

I'm sure you're JUST like me in that you knit for anyone and everyone... other than yourself.. and someone else (can't remember at this hour with only 2 sips of coffee in me)... posted a gift for themselves in their knit list... which got me to thinking... and then, while blog surfing our KALers blogs, I found this...

I am in heaven! I love fall, it's my favorite season, and I love the gradation of these colors... I want it... I want it yesterday! And so.. I shall have it...

Megan was so kind to share with me that the 2004 issue of Cast On has the pattern on page 38 and an eBay seller had the issue... so I bought it.. and it's on it's way to my inlaws already! WAHOO!!!

I'll buy the yarns after September 1st (or labor day I guess) due to my pledge to knit from stash until then, so now I really really need to get my christmas knits cranking so I have plenty of time to knit my first sweater in too many years!

Ok.. now to my crazy hectic day...

Scarf pattern

Thanks Michele for the scarf pattern. I think this just might do the trick (unless I end up changing my mind a million times ;). I took a look at the hat pattern that goes along with it and I might make the scarf gift a hat a scarf set.

Have a great 4th of July

And now a word from our sponsor

Good evening ladies...

I'm so excited to see so many people joining up... PLENTY of thanks due to Chan and Anne's blogs announcing this KAL :-) I want you all to know that I'm about to make a state move, from Hot and Steamy North Carolina (well, not as bad as Atlanta is for Anne, but pretty close probably!) to cool and comfy Pocono's area Pennsylvania!

I will pack up my computers and cancel Cable on Friday, of this week... and VERY early on Saturday I will drive my three little ones, two furry ones, and a frozen turkey (among other random things) to Newark, New York to visit my in-laws, and the various cousins who will be in town as well for the fourth of July celebrations.. I'm taking a TON of knitting with me... of course... but cannot unfortunately work on much Christmas knitting while I'm there, since nearly 1/2 of my christmas list recipients will be there! Fear not though, I plan to work on other great knitting projects! Maybe even some of my mystery items that I hadn't put in my list for fear that the KALers who will be receiving them will know too much info!

Once at my in-laws I will have limited daily computer access :-) but will definitely check in as often as I can, and add new 'Elves' to Santa's alternate workshop!

I will be in Newark until July 7th and will then make the trek back down here to North Carolina to meet our moving company who will pack our house up and load it into the trucks on July 9th and 10th. I will return to Pennsylvania at that time with my hubby and meet the movers at our new home on the 12th. I will be without internet access from July 7th through the 11th.

So.. if you are a newbie, and you don't hear from me for a day or two (or 4) I apologize... bear with me.. I'll get you added as soon as I can! In the meantime, get your list going, and get a-knittin on those projects... I wanna see PROGRESS! :-)

Now... Keitha mentioned looking for a Man's scarf pattern... here's a beautiful one that I plan to use for my two brothers-in-law...

http://iliveonafarm.com/newyorkscarf.html

I will add Fireflies (the author of the ILiveOnAFarm blog)... to the pattern links as well.. she has fabulous knitting patterns, and now that I think of it, a gorgeous little santa gift bag... :-)

Christmas List

I am so excited that I found this blog link while searching the other day. I had just started to figure out what I'd be making for Christmas gifts this year, now I have something to motivate me to keep working on them.
My list so far...
  1. Print O' Wave Stole
  2. Anemoi Mittens
  3. Mystery Stole (hopefully it will work out as a gift for my grandmother)
  4. Lace Leaf Shawl (if the ms3 doesn't work out as planned)
  5. Poncho for my daughter
  6. Knitty Double Scoop Sweater
  7. Princess Doll (Dream Toys by Claire Garland)
  8. Unicorn (Dream Toys by Claire Garland)
  9. Toy Doll (And so to Bed by Lucinda Guy)
  10. Scarf for a man( I don't have a pattern yet for this, so I'm open to any ideas)

Thats it for now, although there is a couple more child sweater patterns that I might add after I get Debbie Bliss' Family Knits book in the mail. Hopefully it will get here soon.

Have a Holly Jolly Christmas...

Hi everyone - thanks for letting me join the party!

Waaayy back in April I tried to justify a yarn splurge by using the old Christmas Knitting excuse via my blog - no one who knows me, and many people who don't, would let me off the hook that easily! (And, to be honest, the scarf I pictured was just given away as a teacher appreciation gift.)

My current Christmas knitting list includes - but is not limited to -
  • this Elann shawl
  • a log cabin blanket
  • a sweater for my son
  • the Lucky Stars quilt (not knitting, but a project nonetheless)
  • 15+ various other over-ambitious projects to be named at a later date

Happy to be here!

Goals - Version 1

This is also posted at my blog...

My knitting goals thus far, but seeing as how I tend to overestimate my ability to finish anything on time (see Fingerless Mitts, finished 6/24/07 for Christmas '06) I reserve the right to reverse, cancel, or abandon all hope before December 25th.

1. Piggle Hat

2. Red dress with matching Head Scarf for Bear

3. Ivory dress with matching Head Scarf for Kitten

4. Big Digger Sweater

5. Minnie Mouse sweater

6. 7 pairs kids socks

Knitted Bunny PJ Bag and other cute kid bags

I tried to Comment to Anne with links to a PJ bag and two cute purses for her 5 year old niece, however the links got cut off...

here's the link for the Bunny PJ Bag

And the one for the Bumble Bee and Frog purses

Great ideas a flowing here ladies... I love it!

Wine Cozies

In response to the comments about the wine cozies that I'm going to make for a friend for Christmas, I thought I'd post the link.

KNITTY 2004

These are not felted, but they are really beautiful. There is a great felted wine sack in the book, Knit One, Felt Two.

All three look to be very simple, and I'm sure would make really great gifts, together with a nice bottle of wine!

Anne's Christmas Knitting List In Progress

In honor of my recent trip to DC I give you the Capitol's Tree!

And as someone else said, I will likely be updating this list, but I wanted to get down the things I know I have now. (Hey Michelle.. for the contest.. LOL Do the 17 things I'm making for co-workers count as one lump some, or each co-worker? LOL)
  • Dishrag/Towel or Facecloth/Bath Sets (17 and counting) for my co-workers in my own department
  • Facecloth/Bath set for our Secretary and all around Grandma Fannie
  • Secret Project for fellow KAL'er 1
  • Secret Project for fellow KAL'er 2
  • Secret Project for fellow KAL'er 3
  • Secret Project for Sister who may visit the blog
  • Secret Project for Friend who may visit the blog
  • Gift for Katie (I'm struggling here ya'll.. what's good for a 5 year old? Stuffed toy? Hat? Sweater? Hat and Scarf Set? Blanket? I'm debating a blanket made from dishcloth letter patterns and pictures then put all together - would a kid actually like that tho?)
  • Scarf for fellow Knitter Anna at work
  • Scarf or lap blanket for Julie
  • Gift for mom
  • Triangular Scarf for mom in the silk I got her like.. eons ago.
I think that covers it. To be fair, I haven't entirely decided on all of the secret projects - and I will still post progress when they've started!

[Edit: HAH. Exactly 6 months today :D Go me!]

List #1

I have been thinking about my Christmas knitting every since I joined this KAL. So far, this is what I have decided upon. I reserve the right to add, delete and generally change my mind totally in the next few months.

1. At least three Chevron Scarves

2. At least four pairs of socks

3. Mystery Stole 3 (depending on how this turns out, I may not be able to part with it).

4. Two warm winter shawls

5. At least 1 Colinette AbFab Afghan

6. Stocking caps to use up extra worsted weight yarn

7. Mitered square sock yarn afghan to use up extra sock yarn

How's this for some lofty goals. I think I'd get very busy very soon.

Six Months and Counting

I think that this KAL is a great idea! I do NOT want a repeat of last year, where I was down to the wire, weaving in ends on Christmas Eve at work.

This is my list, as it stands right now :

- Clementine Shawlette, from Interweave Knits
- 3 stockings ; for me, John (fiance), and Mavy (our cat)
- 2 pairs of socks
- Sophie Bag
- Scarf with zodiac symbol
- Elizabeth bag (bigger version of Sophie)
- 2 felted wine bags
- Hat for John's Dad
- Socks for John's Mom ( Updated - 6/25)

I don't want to list who it's all for, as certain people may read my blog, thus read this! But that is the list as of right now. I've already started the Clementine Shawlette though, so that is a good start!

Yikers! It's That Time Again!!!

My list? I wanted to make everyone a pair of socks. I'm not a fast knitter. But, I've finished one pair from alpaca and I'm knitting the other pair. I'm thinking I may do a pair or two from a worsted weight. Maybe even use some Lion Brand - for those who don't like wool.

I've not done a head count yet ... but, my Girls - daughters and sisters and friends - will be first up.

Happy Knitting - and Thanks for inviting me to join along!!!

Here's the contest...

The person who knits the most (%) of their Christmas list by September 1st wins the book.

So this in effect does two things... first, it gets you to organize your Christmas knitting projects, and it gets you working on them ASAP.

So... rules...
Post your Christmas knits list by July 15th
Knit away at your list
Post pictures of your completed projects as you check them off your list

The person who completes the most projects (percentage wise) will win the book!

Ok, get knitting!
