Sorry about that

That huge rough looking guy is my son Jim. This picture wasn't supposed to end up here, LOL. I was having issues trying to create a slide show of his going away party yesterday. Jim is leaving tonight for Chicago for college. To somewhat relate it to Christmas, I won't see him on Christmas this year, first time since he was born 25 years ago.

I have not started my Christmas list yet, but am hoping to get me list created my next week and then get to speed knitting. So much to do, so little time.

Just Getting Started

I always plan to get involved in a Christmas KAL but don't think about it until the end of October, and then it's really too late. Yeah! Maybe this will inspire me to follow through with some major Christmas knitting. I love Christmas and giving gifts, but my knitted gifts can be a bit limited by the areas in which my planned recipients live. A lot of my relatives live in temperate climates, so for many of them even wool socks aren't an option. But I love wool, so my lucky Indiana-residing sister and her family are the lucky focus of much of my knitting for this KAL. I don't have my list complete at all, but here's a start:

#1 "Trinity" sweater from A Treasury of Rowan Knits for my six-year-old niece.

I really like this pattern, and the directions have been fairly easy to follow, BUT I'm a little worried about one thing. The directions say to knit the armholes for 9 inches for every size! I just don't get it. How can the armholes be the same as for the women's size? The body itself is only 8 inches in length. Yikes!
#2 Stuffed bunny for same niece with replica of "Trinity" sweater
#3 Pirate hat from Moth Heaven's pattern that she designed for four-year-old nephew.
My sister has two other children, so I'll have to think some more about what I want to knit them, and then I think I'll focus on my own family although it's hard to surprise any of them when I'm knitting away out in the living room.

Thanks for sponsoring this, Michelle. It's great!

One down...

I'm pretty sure that I forgot to put these on my Christmas list when I posted it, but they were on there. I finished these up this morning, and am kind of glad that they are out of the way.Pattern: Twinkletoes - Knitty Winter 2006
Yarn: Rowan Calmer in Chiffon
Needles: Plymouth US 6
Modifications: Next time I would make the ties a little bit longer so that they dangle a bit

Happy Half Christmas Eve!

Tomorrow is the annual 'Half' Christmas...

How much have you gotten done on your list??? ;-)

I haven't been on here in a bit, though have been knitting away on my Mom's (decided against starting SILs for now) Reader's wrap.. it's slow going as we've still got so much unpacking to do and I am only half way through Harry... so knitting's been a bit on the back burner.

I wanted to remind everyone, newbies especially of our contest...

here's the original post

Hope you're christmas knitting is coming along nicely! :-)

Hello Everyone,

Last year there were many things that I wanted to make for people and ... well ... I am sure you all know how well that works out!! Especially since I only learned to knit last September, LOL!! So this year I hope to start sooner - and some projects I already have - and get things done before December.

Here's my current list:

  • Scarf for BF *
  • Scarf for Mom
  • Golf Club Covers for Dad
  • Bookmark for Diane
  • Crochet Squares Blanket for Brianna
  • Ornaments for as many people as I can make :o)

* Started Already

That's all I can think of at the moment ... I am sure this list will grow throughout the rest of the year!

My Holiday list

Hello everyone! I'm new to the group, but very happy to have found you all :) I have started to make my holiday gift-making list. My list is overwhelming me which is why I like the idea of this KAL. I'm hoping to set monthly goals between now and December to get it all done. Here is what I am currently thinking about for everyone:

Mom & Dad: an afghan **started
Sister 1: an afghan or the Lace Leaf Wrap
DH of S1: Reversible Cable Scarf and possibly fingerless gloves to match
Sister 2: Waves Scarf
DH of S2: scarf (not sure of pattern yet)
niece 1: Fairy Square afghan
niece 2: Cropped Hoodie
Aunt & Uncle: Ripple Afghan
cousin: Ripple Afghan (reds)
cousin: Liesel Scarf
cousin's DH: scarf (not sure of pattern yet)
cousin: Ripple afghan (blues)
friends (10): scarves or bags ** two scarves made already

And of course, I have ceramic snowman that can be painted in a few nights as backup gifts *laugh*

I'm ready to start...

Today I'm starting the 'Reader's Wrap' for my SIL. I bought the yarn last week at AC Moore here in Wilkes-Barre because they were having a big sale. I'm excited to get started because I have 3 on my list of this pattern to make. I'm hopeful that it will knit up quickly!

Wish me luck... this knitting project will be my 'break' from unpacking... I told myself... 15 mins for every 2 hours of unpacking work! Now.. where's my timer....

Running Out of Ideas

I need some ideas. I was going to make my Dad a pair of socks for Christmas. Well, my Mom informed me the other day that he can't wear wool on his feet. I'll spare you the details, but I'll say it's not pretty. Anyhoo, I'm trying to think of what else to make him. I hate working with cotton when it comes to socks, and I don't really think Dad would dig Fixation. I don't like the feel of it on my feet, and he's pickier than I am about things like that. So, I thought, okay - a hat, because I made him a scarf last year. He doesn't wear gloves or mittens.

But does anyone have any other ideas that I am over looking? My father has officially become my hardest person to knit for.

We're in PA

Hello ladies,

We're in PA! Wahoo!

We close today on our house at 2... and hopefully will have internet at our place by tomorrow afternoon! Then I'll finally be able to catch up on my email, and my blog reading.. (wow I didn't realize how addicted I was until I didn't have it for nearly 2 weeks)... :-S

I need to get busy on my christmas knitting... just haven't had as much time as I'd like.. hmmm moving has really put a cramp in my knitting style!

Talk to you all soon!

Advice please!

So I've been debating what, exactly, to make for my co-workers. Do you think even men could enjoy/appreciate a dishcloth/towel/potholder set of some kind? Some of them are married, and a few single.. if not, any other ideas? I was thinking I'd do more of a bath-themed one for the women.. think that'd be good or would it be the same for each?

The way I figure it, I'd get little gift bags or put something together with clear-wrap tied with bows with cloths and soap and bath things, or with the kitchen things plus some sort of goodie or recipe or something.

Thoughts??

It's Never Too Soon!

I've just joined in on your KAL and I'm so glad I found it. We all know how quickly Christmas rolls around and I always wait too long to start setting up my knitting list.....until now. Now, I'm not saying I'm necessarily going to finish all of these items but I'm going to give it the old college try. Here's my list, but it's only in the planning stages now, so it may change in several ways. For instance, I may decide as I'm knitting something to give it to my mother instead of my daughter-in-law, etc. or I might decide not to knit the item at all, in which case, I'll keep this up to date. So, here goes:

1. Mother: Socks
2. DIL: Hat
3. Daughter: Wrist Warmers
4. DIL: Shawl
5. Son: Hat
6. GD: Sweater & Hat
7. ?? : Ripple Lap Blanket

I would dearly love to complete my Fair Isle cardigan in time for this winter also, since it's been languishing in a basket 3/4 finished for quite some time now. I've been afraid to attempt steeking and the necessary finishing techniques, but I know I must take the plunge, so to speak. Here is a pic:

I've begun the multi-colored ripple lap blanket and I'm using Mission Falls 1824 cotton which is turning out quite nicely. I thought the cotton might be too heavy but this is working up soft and lofty to say nothing of colorful. I'm using up stash which is always a good thing and I'm crocheting it, of course. Funny thing is that I thought I had tons of this yarn and it's going way too rapidly and I'm only about 1/3 of the way finished, so I guess this means I may have to (GULP!) buy more yarn?

Cheers, Laura

My Christmas knitting 07 includes some unfinished Christmas 06!
1. Red Mistake Rib Scarf
2. Irish Hiking Scarf
3. Homespun Prairie Shawl
4. Assorted Dishcloths for Stocking Stuffers
This list is just a few projects to get me started and in the mood for Christmas Knitting!

Greetings!

Hello everyone. I've been a total crazy woman these last few weeks and I wanted to get over here quickly for a post to say hello, and to welcome all our newbies! So many people have signed up since I went away last weekend!

I'm home in NC for just a few days before we'll officially be PA residents. We close on the 12th on our home there in Mountain Top.. and then I'll finally be ALMOST normal again...

My apologies to anyone who had to wait to get blogging permissions in our group and to be added to our Elves list... this moving thing has kept me away from my own blogging wishes! I did get a lot of knitting done in NY with my in-laws this past week, it was relaxing and fun, and the kids and dogs are having a ball!

For those who know about Chewy, she's well, and on the meds that will hopefully slow the progression of her cancer. We did find out that it has a high likelihood of being metastatic and is indeed a bad form of cancer (as if there's any good forms)... her prognosis is 1 week to 195 days ... not a lot of time, so my kiddos are loving her as much as they can (they didn't take the news too well)... and we're doing activities to remember her by... (we created a beautiful stepping stone for our new yard with her paw print in the middle)... for a 10 year old dog, she's got it pretty good with the love and attention from her kids, and from the in-laws right now while we're in NC finishing up the move... We're all very blessed to have had her in our family for so long... :-) I'm praying hard that she makes it through the week so that my in-laws don't have to worry about dealingwith our children if she should pass while we're away!

For any of you newbies.. scroll through the old posts and look for my contest information! :-)

I'll be back soon!
